Ah, bucket lists: a wishlist of things to do before impeding death. According to Wikipedia, the term comes from “kicking the bucket”, which is the physical act of removing a stand under a prisoner’s feet for hanging. So, people make lists of things they want to experience before death. Now, I encourage healthy people to experience life to the fullest extent. Make those lists, live those dreams! Have all the sex and drugs possible. Never have regrets.
There are those of us who see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it’s a train. Most of us don’t have the resources to carry out the bucket lists, because, let’s face it, illness is expensive. I will be the first to admit, I’m jealous of and a bit bitter about of all these healthy people who get to travel, to experience everything there is. Yes, I’ve led an adventurous life up to now, but I still have some to living before the train reaches me.
So, in case you are reading with pity and unlimited resources, here’s my bucket list. In no particular order:
San Diego Comic-Con
New Orleans Mardi Gras
2016 Summer Olympics
Visit Sri Lanka
Follow Highly Suspect on tour
There are realistic things coming in the future, like the Simarillion tattoo, and the septum piercing. I intend to paint another painting, keep writing. Life will just continue in smaller chunks, instead of grand gestures.
